Care Tips and Maintenance for Acrylic Displays

October 25th, 2016

Acrylic displays are suitable for showcasing a variety of items ranging from jewellery to museum pieces. Their transparent nature allows people to view the items easily and at times, from all sides depending upon their design. In addition, they are durable enough to hold merchandise and other elements on top of them without cracking or breaking. In order for these display cases to last for years, though, you must provide them with the proper care and maintenance. Follow our tips below to accomplish this in the appropriate way.

1. Lightly Wipe the Displays with a Soft, Electro-Static Cloth to Remove Dust

Dust almost leaps onto electro-static cloths when you wipe them lightly over the displays. Cloths such as these hold the dust so it does not fly into the air during this process.

2. Wash With Mild Detergent, Warm Water and a Soft Cloth

After removing the unwanted particles in number one, wash the displays with a mild detergent, warm water and a soft cloth. Rinse displays with clean water and wipe dry with another soft cloth. This method is usually sufficient to clean all acrylic displays, but if your units contain stains that are tough to remove, refer to number five on this list for further instructions.

3. Never Use Ammonia or Solutions Containing It on Acrylic

Ammonia or cleaners containing it will mar acrylic surfaces. Never use these solutions to spruce up your displays. After all, your displays are a valuable investment for your company, and you should treat them as such.

4. You Should Not Use Abrasive Pads or Cleansers on This Type of Displays

Avoid the use of abrasive cleansers or pads, as you will destroy the finish of your acrylic display cases. Other ways exist to remove tough marks as you learn when you read the next section.

5. Remove Tough Marks with the Appropriate Solutions

If your acrylic display cases contain tough marks, such as the remains of the self-adhesive backing that comes on the cases from the factory or grease stains, use a bit of naphtha or kerosene on a soft cloth. Be certain to work in a well-ventilated room while using either one of these solvents. Wash off all the residue of the solvent using the process in number two on this list. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Never use solvents stronger than the ones we mention here since they will mar and even soften the acrylic.
